STANDEDGE TUNNEL VISITORS CENTRE

STANDEDGE TUNNEL VISITORS CENTRE

At the Marsden end of the tunnel, our visitor centre tells the story of the tunnel, from its planning through 200+ year’s of history. Including the fascinating story of its rescue, restoration and reopening in 2001.

With a special selection of items on loan from our designated museum collection and films showing the story of the local people, our centre brings the Standedge Tunnel to life and challenges you to think again about your waterways.

On both Saturday and Sunday of the Festival weekend there will be three bands on outside the cafe under a marquee – gypsy jazz, blue grass, and folk. There will also be a bar, a wood fired pizza van, and a coffee shop for you to enjoy. Happy Times ahoy!

Marsden Shuttle Boat Trips will be running trips up and down the canal (between the lock by the station and the Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre) all weekend long, with special guests The Hot Club of Halifax providing musical entertainment on the trips. This is a great way for you to get to Standedge Tunnel Visitors Centre, who will have events on all weekend. Their new electric boat will be running all weekend, and are asking only for donations.
